When people get back from school…

All hell breaks loose. This weekend has gone by super fast. Here we have Adrian attempting to drink water through a motorcycle helmet and McBride doing something weird at one of the three parties I’ve attended this weekend. Scott’s head is visible in the foreground.

Things I did this weekend: Seen a lot of people, worked for 8 hours, skated all day Monday and Sunday night. Shot a lot of photos too.

Things I didn’t do this weekend: Go to folklife

A Few Cool Things

That Asian baby is wondering how my Muxtape site could be so cool. I found out about it while lurking on flickr but it seems like a pretty decent way to keep everyone (Otis) updated on what I’m listening to. You can throw a maximum of 12 tracks on there and each must be an mp3 smaller than 10 megabytes. Pretty decent UI and layout too, just click a song to hear it.

Also, I couldn’t figure out how to make the javascript work with the blog but UNIQLO (a shoe store in Philly) is having some sort of weird promotion and they have a fun little music game to go along with it. Basically you make your own little loop using funny sounds people make. It’s addictive.

Props to this homie, nutella FTW.

Droopy Eye Syndrome

I was snapping a few photos of my friend Sean Lee for his Rainy Dawg DJ page and I did a few light checks on myself. You’ll notice my right eye is really red in one corner and the left has a severe droop on it. And it’s not because I’m trying to look sad either, my eyes are severely messed up right now. I need to get to Hall Health soon and get them checked out.

In other news, I got my two rolls from the Bronica back from 60 Minute Photo and I’ll be uploading them throughout the week. I’m pretty hyped on what I got back even if it’s not too interesting. I tried scanning them with these Imacon scanners we have in the SOACC and even though the scanner is worth like 10 G’s the scans don’t look so hot.

I also just spent the evening with Harmony and I’m really excited because I think I might be living with her and Paula next year, maybe, even though we haven’t told Paula yet.

Wow I have too much to say but I just finished the fourth season of that HBO show the Wire and I’m clamoring for more. I need to get my hands on the fifth season somehow.

A New Purchase

So on Thursday I finally bought a Bronica SQ-Ai. It’s a camera I’ve been lusting after for a while, basically since I wanted to move beyond the medium format limitations of the Yashica-12. This camera has pretty much everything you could want, except for maybe the name Hasselblad written on it. Interchangeable backs & viewfinders, cheap/sharp lenses and flash sync all the way to 1/500th of a second.

The guy I bought it from on craigslist was super nice and he even through in some film, a Polaroid 800 camera and a Kodak Duaflex camera. When I bought it from him we just kind of chilled in the U Village QFC parking lot while he showed me how it worked, etc. Took me a little while to get used to all the differences from the Yashica but I’ve already shot 2 rolls and I’m excited to get them back. Hopefully that massive mirror won’t make all my pictures blurry.

So I update my blog, kinda

Otis is clowning, he even sent me a list of tips on how to keep blogging. I’m not too sure why I don’t blog too often, but lately I’ve been really, really busy. Each week it’s like a march to get to the weekend and then once I get to the weekend I’m even more busy with work, etc. By the time I get a chance to take a break, I want to do something non-computery like reading. Also, I’ve spent a lot of time working on stuff but not really had much to show for it, running into technical problems and stuff. Today I spent about 3 hours in the SoACC trying to burn a DVD but never really got around to it.

As for the weekend coming up, I have lots of plans and ideas for photo class, hopefully I’ll get some time to rest a bit too. I’m going to try to redeem myself after my poor balloon showing this past weekend.

Sorry for the lack of updates as of late, I’ll try to get some more stuff up after this weekend.

Cut Copy

So I went to see Cut Copy at Easy Street yesterday because the show they did here was 21+. The Easy Street thing was kind of weird and a little hard to get into. They spun a few records and spent most of the time looking down at their CDJs. I recorded the set on a little voice recorder thing and it’s complete with snippets of me talking loudly, my camera shutter and random levels maxing out. If you haven’t yet, you should check out their new album titled In Ghost Colours. They signed my copy. Pitchfork loved it.

In other news, I did pretty poorly on my Spanish test today and probably not so good on my math quiz.

El Hospital

Apparently I kind of caused a stir on my Flickr by posting the above image of my mother while she was in the hospital recovering from her surgery. To everyone who’s wondering, she’s alive and doing well, resting at my house. If you want to give her a call or send her a letter she might appreciate that.

In other Tim news, I’m going to head to the SOACC and import some video for Nick Sears’ memorial which I filmed over the weekend. I’m also putting a lot of time into my portraits project for Photography. The above image was intended for the project, but my teacher felt that it didn’t mesh with the other two of my brother and sister. Maybe I’ll make it a sibling thing and try to do one of me tonight, who knows. Gossip Girl tonight at Veronica’s house, get hyped.

Oh, College

So I’ve been up to a lot lately, from photo projects to math midterm study to getting back into the swing of things at NWOC. Free time has been scarce and my room has kind of gotten messy but I’m planning on fixing all of that after my midterm tomorrow.

As for Photo, I had a really good talk with the TA for my class, Austen, today about the program at the UW in general. It made me kind of realize that if I were to major in photo, there wouldn’t be much instruction going on. Austen said I have the knowledge, drive, etc., majoring in photo would just give me access to all this cool (albeit poorly maintained) equipment that I could use for my projects. This got me thinking that I’m either double majoring (i.e. photo + something) or not majoring in photo. Decisions, decisions.

On another photography related tip, my teacher for the class said I should enter my Shakey Face images into Photographic Center Northwest’s “Call for Entries.” I’m a little skeptical. It looks expensive and it also looks like it draws stuff from all around the world. If anyone wants to foot the 40 dollar bill, I might be down.

I think that’s all for now, Omar’s asleep already and I haven’t slept more than six hours all week, so I’m hyped on doing that tonight!

Loyalty

I remember I got super hyped when I saw them filming this, gosh, that was like 4 months ago. Fresh video, fake lens flares are played though. Watch it here in full Hi-Def quality.

Shakey Face

Last night I wrapped up my first photography project. The subject was “performative act” and we were supposed to capture a verb. I decided to make my verb Shakey Face. Paul introduced me to it a while back and I figured I’d give it a revival. At first my theme was Funny Faces, but Shakey Faces beat those out. For the images, which you can view here, I tried to think about my backgrounds a lot too. It was pretty run and gun, just had a lightstand, umbrella, strobe and pocket wizards with me. I’d find a person (or a friend) wander around for a little bit and then tell them to shake their face. By coincidence I got a “normal” photo of everyone too, so I made some sweet little Diptychs. The first critique went well.
