So my dad is icing his shoulder in the kitchen or something and goes, “Hey Tim, why don’t you put on that mix that I like from Kanye West’s DJ?” Kanye West’s DJ, a.k.a. A-Trak, a.k.a. Alain Macklovitch, released Infinity + 1 a little while ago and I kind of forgot about it but I was definitely excited when I heard about it/remembered it to download it again. If you haven’t heard this guy mix before, I suggest you check this mix or his recent FabricLive.45 set/his older Dirty South Dance mix. They’re all gold and you know if this guy is Ye’s DJ, he’s gotta be fresh.

I think my favorite tracks from this are either the intro which has a pretty fresh Shel Silverstein quote ++ some tight “A-Trak” & “Infinity” drops or the way he mixes Kid Sister’s “Life on TV” into Sebastien Tellier’s “Kilometer.” Definitely go buy it/support A-Trak even though I’m not feeling his recent hipster look.

This is my friend Claire Fox. She let me come to her Friday breakfast at Oddfellow’s Hall Cafe or something like that. It was fun.

I’m going to try to start this thing up again, hopefully I can keep it interesting. Sorry to leave you all hanging for so long. I’ve been REALLY BUSY. Lots of working, especially during the weekends. Mostly my weekends look like a basketball game Thursday night, volleyball Friday night, football saturday, volleyball sunday and finally Monday night basketball. That usually means missing gossip girl, oh no!

This is crazy.

OK so I’ve been really busy lately with school and work but just so I don’t keep everyone out of the loop, hit the read more thing so you can check all the wonderful things I made bullets for.

• First thing is that I just got the copies of this magazine that I let use my photos! They contacted me while I was in Spain and I told them they could use them if they wanted so they just grabbed the version I had on flickr. I think it turned out pretty nicely, thought a little pixely.

• Second thing is that yesterday I finally got a Polaroid 680 SE off craigslist. This means I don’t have to just stop down my SX-70 all the time + I have the benefits of a flash! I also got this pretty cool old slide to polaroid converter that uses packfilm and a basically brand-new-in-box spectra camera that should be fun to use if I find some film.

• Last thing is that I figured out how you can see all my work that gets published through our school newspaper, the Daily. The tech guy David made these cool author pages where you can basically see anything that has a name attached to it. Take a look at mine here. Apparently I’m going to be taking more photos, or at least that’s what John, the photo editor, says.

So I guess it’s been about a week or so since I went to Richard Misrach’s lecture for the opening of his “On The Beach” series at the Henry Art Gallery. I was going there to take photos for the Daily but the artistic side of me kind of wanted to go and check it out for fun. While listening to Misrach talk about his work was pretty cool, there were a few let downs during the whole thing:

• This dude wouldn’t let me take photos during his lecture. I mean come on, we’re running something in a newspaper about your lecture, hook it up a little and at least let me take a picture of you talking.
• After his lecture when we were in the Henry Art Gallery checking out his stuff, I worked up the courage to tell him who I was and what my deal was. We talked a bit and then I started taking photos of him but then he got all shy/skittish.
• Plus a few of the people at the Henry FLIPPED OUT that I was taking photos, even when I was wearing the credential thing they gave me. Ugh, beef.

This weekend is going to be very busy. NWOC and Volleyball Friday night. XC photos Saturday morning, Football Saturday night, NWOC Sunday. Work is never over.

This photo is from when Max, Shanti, Otis and I went up to Squamish, B.C. to visit Veronica at her kind of weird college called Quest. They ask themselves a question when they apply to the school and then they go on a quest to answer that question. I kind of just really like this photo. I haven’t finished the other roll of 120 I shot on this trip but expect to see those soon, it’s a roll of Fuji Astia 100.

Veronica’s also currently in Kenya working with a program through Quest but I haven’t heard anything from her. I hope she’s doing well and taking lots of photos.

Not too sure how many people know, but I shoot a lot of stuff for the UW newspaper, the Daily. Recently I’ve been shooting a lot of sports features which I’m pretty excited about. The first was a story about the UW men’s soccer team’s two goalies, Rylan Hawkins (left) and Stephen Fung (article here). I wasn’t planning on doing it, but my friend Thom couldn’t take the assignment at the last minute. After some complications finding the practice, I got there and waited for a bit. Rylan had to leave a bit early for class so I got a shot of the two of them together, then I had to wait some more to do some portraits with Stephen.

This was the first thing I had in mind, I wanted to make use of the 5D’s wide-angle so I got in nice and close. Stephen didn’t really hook it up with a fierce face, but what can you do? These two photos were the ones that ran in the paper, this last one was a cool idea I though but it could’ve been executed a bit better.

I think it would’ve been a bit better had I upped the shutter to stop the motion a bit, but I wasn’t thinking much at the time. I was a little worried about the soccer ball that was passing through my legs

The other feature I had to shoot was one on the women’s cross country team. They’ve been doing really well lately and are ranked #1 in the country. A big contributor to the team has been Canadian freshman Kendra Schaaf (article here). She’s won her first two races by about 30 seconds each which apparently is pretty badass. I went to practice this past monday to try and make a few pictures. I had some nice ideas planned for husky stadium but the football team was practicing in there so we couldn’t do those.

I was just kind of messing around while they practiced hurdles, but check out HOW RIPPED SHE IS. Look at those abs. The photo editor was pretty hyped on this one.

The last thing was just a nice portrait of Kendra, but that was kind of hard to get, seeing as how we were on a track and cross country runners almost never run on tracks. I guess it turned out ok, I used a flash off the camera to light it and make her pop out a bit from the background.

I guess that’s about it, I’m shooting a bit more stuff for the Daily this weekend so I’ll keep you in the know if anything goes down.

This photo was taken somewhere outside of Salamanca in a little pueblo. When we went with the camp to Salamanca it was usually an all day thing and this is the first thing we did. After a 2 and a half hour bus ride, we got off the bus, used the bathroom and then got onto a big cart. A tractor pulled us a little ways out to a field where we got to see the magic that are toros (bulls). A man named Antonio who owned the ranch gave us a nice little talk about how cool they are and what makes them so special, then we get brought back to his house. From the outside the house looks pretty normal. When you look inside, it’s obvious that it isn’t and that there’s a huge bull ring inside. Antonio let out a little toro that basically couldn’t do much damage to anything. The kids got to play and run around in there for the better half of an hour. The guy in this picture was Antonio’s friend who helped out with his whole presentation. He never said a word but he was one of the coolest people I met in Spain. The dog on the ledge above is one of many on Antonio’s ranch. The girl to the man’s right is named Anaïse and she is from France. She usually wore a backpack for some reason. I think that’s about it.
